Doctorate of Earth, Environmental and Resources Science
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the highest academic qualification in the Italian University. The main objective during the course of PhD studies is to learn the methods for scientific research, either basic or applied, in the chosen field of investigation.
The Doctorate of Earth, Environmental and Resources Science is held by the Departmento of of Earth, Environmental and Resources Science - DiSTAR dell'Università di Napoli Federico II, with the participation of INGV - Osservatorio Vesuviano section of Napoli.
The research topics basically cover all the classical disciplines of the Earth Sciences (such as Stratigraphy, Structural Geology, Geomorphology, Engineering Geology, Paleontology, Vulcanology, Geophysics, Applied Geophysic, Meteorology, Economic Geology, Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrology) and might possibly include interdisciplinary investigations. From the moment the Tutor is assigned, the latter provides - through the relevant RADRL - the mandatory information, education and training and subsequent compilation and signing of the authorization form valid for the entire duration of the doctoral course . The Coordinator is required to safeguard this duly countersigned documentation.
PhD students will have to attend some statutory courses, especially during their first year, but each student will also have a specific personal course program, agreed with the supervisor and approved by the Academic Board.
